Final Jeopardy: Geopolitical Hot Spots (12-24-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (12/24/2013), in the category “Geopolitical Hot Spots” was:

On the Grand Trunk Road, the Wagah border separating these two countries since 1947 is called the “Berlin Wall of Asia.”

New champ, Larry White won $25,200 in yesterday’s slaughter – uh, we mean game. Today he goes for a second win against these two players: Missy Flood, from Groton, CT; and Bonita Dominguez, from Surprise, AZ.

Larry found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Christmastime Around the World” under the $800 clue. He was the only one with any money. He bet $2,000 of his $3,000 and he was RIGHT.

Larry finished in the lead with another runaway: $23,200. Bonita was next with $10,600 and Missy was in third place with $4,800.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT ARE INDIA AND PAKISTAN?

“Wagah, named Wahga in Pakistan, is a village through which the controversial Radcliffe Line, the boundary demarcation line dividing India and Pakistan upon the Partition of India, was drawn. The village was divided by independence in 1947. Today, the eastern half of the village remains in the Republic of India while the western half is in Pakistan. It is particularly known for the elaborate Wagah border ceremony that happens at the border gate before sunset each day.” (wikipedia)

Missy wrote down North and South Korea (separated by the Korean DMZ). She lost her $4,795 bet and finished with $5.

Bonita got it right and bet $9,000 so she finished with $19,600.

Larry also got it. He bet $1,224 so he won this match with $24,424. His two day total is $49,624.

We thought this was an easy FJ and, once again, 2 contestants nailed it. Can’t be long till there’s one everyone gets, can it? Maybe it will be on Christmas Day.
