WHAT ARE THE PILLARS OF HERCULES?
First, it would help a lot if you knew that Ceuta is a Spanish city located on the northern tip of Morocco. Then you would know that the clue refers to 2 mountains on the northern coast of Africa. Then, unless you’ve been to that area or to the Rock of Gibraltar, you might get somewhere recalling how, in mythology, Hercules created the Strait of Gibraltar by smashing a mountain in half, forming 2 land masses called the Pillars of Hercules.
The Rock of Gibraltar is the northern pillar. The Rock’s website claims Jebel Musa in Morocco as their “sister pillar.” Ceuta claims Mount Hacho as the southern pillar. The city proudly displays a huge statue of the Pillars of Hercules created by native artist Ginés Serrán Pagán in 1949.
Henry wrote down “I had fun.” He bet and lost his whole $2,000.
Matt went with the straits of Gibraltar. He lost $2,000 and finished with $5,200.
Ashley had Mt. Everest & K2. She bet nothing so she won the game with $17,400. Ashley’s 3-day total is $46,500.
A triple stumper from STARTS WITH “H”:
