Today’s Final Jeopardy question (12/10/2019) in the category “Oscar-Winning Films” was:

Jennifer finished in the lead with $25,200. Shane was next with $10,400 and Ben was in third place with $9,800.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
Patton was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 1971, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, although that last honor was famously refused by the star of the film, George C. Scott. Daily History’s “How Accurate is the Movie Patton” article says the 1970 film “has one of the most memorable opening scenes in Hollywood history. George C. Scott emerges as Patton and gives a remarkable speech in front of a huge banner of the Stars and Stripes… However, Patton never gave such a speech.”
An item on IMDB’s trivia page says George C. Scott agreed to film the speech in front of the American flag only after director Franklin J. Schaffner misled him by saying the scene would go at the end of the film.
Ben got it right. He bet it all and brought his score up to $19,600.
Shane went with “The Bridge on the River Kwai.” He lost his $9,200 bet and finished with $1,200.
Jennifer got it, too. She added $1,000 to her already-winning score and won the game with $26,200. Her 5-day total is $149,500. Alex Trebek made a big deal over the low bet and said he might ask her on tomorrow’s program.
I only counted one triple stumper in the whole game:
AWARDS & HONORS ($1200) In 1992 architect Alvaro Siza won this, often called the Nobel Prize of Architecture
2 years ago: NONE of the players got this FJ in “French Cities”
The name of this city in the Departement du Nord comes from the Flemish for “church of the dunes” show

You go girl!
55/61 right is one of my highest ever.
The film which won the 1970 Oscar was Midnight Cowboy. Patton won in 1971
The ambiguity between a film’s release year and its award year had always bothered me.
The way I see it, it doesn’t change the year of the film’s release just because it wins an award the following year
I learned today that it is “Hasty Pudding”. For years I always thought is was “Hasty Pudding(s)”. The pedantic judges never would have accepted the added ‘s’.
For the question where “pool room” was accepted, would “saloon” also have been an acceptable answer?
Maybe the judges would have to check if alcohol were served in the “pool room”. I don’t know.
I don’t think so. “saloon” only has a single double ‘o’. For whatever reason, “snooker room” came to my mind instead of “pool room”, which, although fulfilling the category name, world probably not have been accepted.
I’m surprised at the triple stumper, given how many times it has appeared on the show.
I had the identical thought.
At last we got a five time winner in Jennifer Quail. The last five time winner we had was Sam Kavanaugh so all Jen needs is one more win to surpass Sam’s score.
Bridge on the River Kwai? That was a 1957 film and it was only nominated for the awards in 1958 and not the 1970s. Did shane misread the clue here VJ? I’m glad that the board was cleared by everyone.
Yes, congrats to Jennifer. She’s cleaning up. Ben was doing a good job of catching up there till he ran into that Daily Double. Jennifer would have had to bet more if he had been able to break her lock, right?
