Final Jeopardy: Olympic History (11-8-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (11/8/2013) in the category “Olympic History” was:

In London in 2012, judo & the 800m run included the first female Olympians ever from this mideastern country.

A 3-day champ has been scarcer than hen’s teeth for a while, but Rani Peffer did it with a runaway game yesterday, bringing her winnings up to $41,135. For her 4th game, she takes on these two players: Vimal Murthy, from Redondo Beach, CA; and Amanda DeMeola, from Brooklyn, NY.

Rani found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “American Poetry.” She was in the lead with $5,400, $1,600 ahead of Amanda in second place. She bet $800 and she was RIGHT.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS SAUDI ARABIA?

Wojdan Shaherkani, from Mecca, competed in the judo games. At the time, she was 16.

Then 19-year-old Sarah Attar, who holds dual citizenship in Saudi Arabia and the USA, competed in the 800 meter run.

Rani got it right. She bet $7,777 and finished with $15,577.

Amanda wrote down “Iraq.” That cost her all her dough and she finished with zero.

Vimal thought it was Afghanistan. He lost $8,401 so he wound up with $3,599.

Rani rules again. Her 4-day total is $56,712. Rani mentioned during the chat that she’d like to win enough money to buy an island about the size of Cyprus. She’ll have to win a heck of a lot more games to even come up with a down payment. Check out Private Island Online if you want to buy or rent one.
