WHAT IS PONG?

theweek.com’s article “Pong at 50” is basically a retelling of the creation of Atari’s 1972 electronic table tennis game from various sources. The phrase ‘that changed the world’ comes from The Guardian’s 50th anniversary article. The ‘most boring’ description comes IEEE Spectrum magazine’s article “Pong Was Boring—And People Loved It”.

All the articles quoted describe Pong’s creation, its instant popularity, and how it ushered in the lucrative video game industry. Also included are the various ways it is used today, such as teaching children to code and training AI algorithms.

Alan had Pong but he crossed it out and didn’t give a complete response after that. He lost $3,581 and finished with $819.

Molly got it right. She bet $8,000 and finished with $27,200.

Allegra got it right, too. She bet $17,001 and won the game with $17,001 and won the game with $38,401. Allegra’s 2-day total is $65,001. Wundebar!

I got FJ because a buddy is the world’s recognized expert in video gaming prior to the PC.

Have to applaud Allegra for fighting back up, as others have said.

Alan all but disappeared in DJ. Molly was on her way to a runaway after the $5K DD wager, but Allegra fought back like the champ she is.

I’m definitely old enough to have remembered who became a US citizen in 1963 (he died in ’65, and I got to see his grave in 1971), and to have owned that ancient video game, which I got at a toy store on a clearance sale in the mid-70s. And “Gigi” author. Surprised no one knew whom Eddie Redmayne portrayed on film or the alliterative quality of quartz.

Molly had me thinking Allegra was going home for a while, but wow! Allegra was like, not today Folks! 🤣

This Final would have been 3 for 3 had Alan left his response alone. Allegra finally became our first female repeat champion since Laura Faddah and I think we’ll be seeing Molly again for Second Chance 2026 because of her strong performance and the score she finished with after FJ!
