TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS GEORGIA TECH?

On its website, Georgia Tech says the Ramblin’ Wreck name “gained widespread acceptance in the 1920s, when Tech graduates began building makeshift mechanical buggies to improve a poor transportation system in South America.” I wanted to know where in South America that was happening. Instead I found “A Ramble Through Wreck History,” an article that indicates the nickname itself and the fight song first showed up in the 19th century. That article says “Although the “Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech” fight song predates the car— and calls upon the memory of a train wreck involving the Tech football team— the term was co-opted by students some 30 years later to describe a completely different vehicle. It first became the nickname for a dilapidated 1914 Ford Model T that Floyd Field, a math professor and later Tech dean of men, drove to work daily from 1916 until 1928.”

Tarun got it right. He bet $1,601 and finished with $5,001.

Megan went with Auburn. That cost her $2,000 and left her with $3,000.

Cris got it right, too. He bet a hefty $25,221 and won the game with $71,821. Chris Pannullo’s 14-day total is $487,923.

Speaking of “Holzhauerian” comparisons, this game was over after about 5 clues. At least the challengers got into the positive numbers. If it had been a boxing match, the ref would have called it a TKO during the first commercial.

Stumped by FJ, but at least I got the mid-century 2nd term; the biological rate; and the NFL team, which lost another Thanksgiving heartbreaker today.

The double-T stumper reminded me of infamous VP Spiro T Agnew, who once referred to war protesters as “nattering nabobs of negativism.” I was at a Mets playoff game in 1973 when they posted on the scoreboard that he’d resigned. There was a huge roar of approval.

  4. VJ says:

Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating today.

    Astounding performance from Cris!

As for categories today, I always love it when I can recognize character actors in TV show or movie. Alas, I’m not very current with that these days and only got 2 in that category. I got all the Oscar winners though.
