WHAT IS E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL?
Film critic Roger Ebert had high praise for Steven Spielberg’s 1982 blockbuster, “E.T.”: “It’s about a relationship between a little boy and a creature from outer space that becomes his best friend. That makes it sound like a cross between “The Thing” and “National Velvet.” It works as science fiction, it’s sometimes as scary as a monster movie, and at the end, when the lights go up, there’s not a dry eye in the house.” The film won 4 of the 9 Oscars it was nominated for.
A 1998 clue: STAR MOVIES $400: 5 years before “E.T.”, little Cary Guffey tried to befriend extraterrestrials in this Spielberg film
David thought it was “2001: A Space Odyssey.” He bet and lost it all.
Terrie came up with “Alien.” That only cost her $400 and she hung on to $8,200.
Mary Ann got it right. Wouldn’t you know that she only bet $500 this time? She won this one with $18,700 and now has a 4-day total of $86,500.

It would have been great if Trebek dressed as a Pilgrim, Squanto, or even Pocahontas.
Speaking of Squanto, I saw an animated version of him in an episode of ”This Is America, Charlie Brown!” called ”The Mayflower Voyagers”.
Yeah, Alex said that there are a lot of possibilities here, but the last few words of the clue might help. Has anyone watched E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial?
The clue here is a critique of Ebert, I wonder how Siskel critique that.
I watched that movie.
@Lou, I never saw the FJ movie myself but I still got it from “not a dry eye.” A lot of people talked about it at the time so I knew what it was about and what effect it had. Aliens and sci-fi ain’t my thing. Tear-jerkers neither. Also never saw the other 2 responses.

Again, HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!!!!!!
If she loses tomorrow can she still participate in the tournament of champions
By the way congratulations to Mary Ann on her fourth win and she joins Alex Schmidt and Kyle becker on the toc list. Two more wins and she will be comfortable right up there with Rob Worman. Happy thanksgiving to you guys at Fikkle Fame
ET the extra terrestrial is one of those memorable movies we won’t forget. David hardly ever rung in today and had trouble getting into the rhythm. VJ and John are you guys fans of alien movies like 2001 a space odyssey and Alien? I wonder if any of those films are nominated for best picture. Also when did you guys see ET?
@Lou
Loved 2001 AND Alien. E.T. Was one of my first movies when I came to the States, about 1985. Happy Thanksgiving to you too!!
