Sam should have won last night’s game! I read my Bible everyday, and Hebrews has not been among Paul’s letters! Give Sam the game he deserves
Honorable resolution: Allow Andrew to remain with 2 wins, but give Sam 1 win, which is quite unlikely to change final outcome. The Jeopardy directors acknowledge that they are not perfect and human like the rest of us and we all move on with the show.
They might possibly be waiting to see what happens. If Amy wins the tournament, maybe they will say it was a bad clue but it didn’t affect the outcome.
Controversy aside, Amy’s blown DD cost her the win, ultimately. She’s a cool customer ordinarily, but seemed perturbed when she missed the DD.
Is it possible word would have leaked by now if a do-over of some kind had been granted?
One more for Andrew so we can conclude our tournament.
Virtually NO New Testament scholar still attributes Hebrews to Paul. Virtually all say the author is unknown.
This is a terrible Final Jeopardy question and the results of the round should be changed, or the round replayed. How the Jeopardy folks could have bobbled this one so badly is a mystery. When Amy answered “Hebrews”, I startled and yelled “Paul didn’t even WRITE Hebrews!” The consensus of scholars today is that Hebrews is not a Pauline letter. Period. As for which Pauline letter has the. most OT quotations, I’m not absolutely sure; sources have some different answers. But if it IS Romans, as some sources say, then SAM WUZ ROBBED. Unbelievable for this to happen in a Championship Final round.
So glad to see that I was not alone.
I almost jumped out of my seat. The clue was flawed in a major way. There definitely needs to be restitution, especially as this a championship tournament. The irony, the clue could have been just as a effective by instead being; “the author of this New Testameant letter wrote….”.
Hmmmm……..I thought it was the Ephesians in FJ, but what the heck, no one seems to know..
New Testament scholarship is virtually unanimous that Paul did NOT write Hebrews. The question could easily have be written to exclude the attribution to Paul. Sam should be the winner. This was unconscionable in a Final Jeopardy answer on the Tournament of Champions.
Sam was robbed, simply because the authorship of Hebrews is nowhere near as settled as his other attributed epistles.
The Apostle Paul signed all of his other letters as the author. Hebrews is not signed by Paul or any other author.
The question should have been checked for accuracy before being included, especially in final jeopardy.
Sam was correct in saying Romans (by Paul) included the most OT quotations.
Sam was the winner.
I call “Shenanigans!” on this one
I will see what position the jeopardy show will take from there about this issue. Thanks for sharing this information VJ.
This seems VERY unfortunate as a good case can be made for Sam’s answer of Romans. I vaguely remember the controversy in 2012 and I’m not sure how that solution could apply to this game. I’ll be checking out the Jeopardy website to see what position the show will take. As always, VJ, many thanks for your research and insight!
“The Epistle to the Hebrews” does not say it was written by Paul in its text (no author is claimed in the text, in fact), and the authorship of the epistle has been debated since the first centuries after Jesus’s life.
At best, the author of “Hebrews” has “traditionally” been attributed to Paul.
This is an unforgivable error by the show.
Most Bible teaching on Hebrews that I have heard say that it is very possible that Paul did not write Hebrews. It is very different from his other writings. Possibly James wrote it.
Well, I don’t know what position the show will take on this issue, but if you google “how many epistles did Paul write”, the response is generally 13 and doesn’t include Hebrews. However, Jeopardy! usually goes by the King James Bible (KJV), and Hebrews is included in that version.
That being said, it would not be the first time they messed up a Final Jeopardy! Bible clue. Back in 2012, they made a big mistake involving the Last Supper.
Regarding the 2012 link, what first came up in my mind was ‘The Last Supper’, but don’t chide me as I quickly disregarded it.
However, one of the contestants picked ‘The Last Supper’, and got it right. No!!!!!!! It just couldn’t be!!!!!
Well, Rick, that’s how it went down on the show but then Alex came back on and acknowledged the error, saying it didn’t affect the outcome of the game. In other words, the same contestant won whether he was right or wrong. That’s not the case in today’s game.
