WHAT IS THE HONEY BADGER?

The honey badger was voted the “Most Fearless Mammal” by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010, but that was not what made the little savage a household word. It was National Geographic footage with original narration by Randall that showed up on youtube the following year. “Within a few months a three-minute video with irreverent commentary and catchy phrases attained a level of publicity and mainstream consciousness any business would kill for.” Randall tells the story of how he coped with the business aspect of the pop culture phenomenon he started on Inc.com

The honey badger was the topic of the first Daily Double in the January 19, 2015 match.

Audrey didn’t have a response. She bet and lost it all.

Rohan thought it might be a river otter. He lost $14,998, leaving him with $2.00.

Emma got it right. She bet $12,001, bringing her up to today’s winning total: $30,001. Emma Arnold will join Maya Wright and Claire Sattler in the Teen Tournament finals. That 2-part event takes place next Monday and Tuesday.

I never heard of a Honey Badger. The girl who got it right could probably beat many adults in regular Jeopardy.

  2. John Christian Ambion says:

Next week’s TT finals will be its FOURTH all-female Final, with the winner being the EIGHTH to win.

    • William Weyser says:

No, it’s the 5th time that the Finals will be an all-female final. Of the 5 times that the 2 Day Finals has been an all-female final, 4 of them have come from the Teen Tournament in 1992, 1999-A, 2012 & 2018. The only time that it was not the Teen Tournament was in the 1988 Seniors Tournament, and that would be the 1st time in JEOPARDY! history where the 2 Day Finals was an all-female final.

      • John Christian Ambion says:

        @William Weyser Thanks for correction.

      • John Christian Ambion says:

@William Weyser I’m sorry. Thanks for correction.

      • Richard Corliss says:

Peggy Kennedy was the first woman to win the Seniors Tournament, she died in 2000. In 1988, Alex mentioned all all female final while he was talking to Sandra Gore. Sandra Gore was the first female to appear in the finals of the 1988 Tournament of Champions. I don’t think Emma, Claire, and Maya will beat the current minimums.

  3. William Weyser says:

This reminds me of William Scott & Rishab Jain in the most recent JEOPARDY! College Championship. William lost his quarter-final game, because he didn’t wager enough to cover Rishab, and Rishab won as a result, but they both still made it to the Semi-Finals. William did the math right this time, won his semi-final game by $1, and got his revenge on Rishab, after Rishab lost his semi-final game to eventual College Champion: Dhruv Gaur. In this year’s Teen Tournament, Claire Sattler lost her quarter-final game, because she didn’t wager enough to cover Audrey Satchivi, and Audrey won as a result, but Claire still made a good wager. They both made it to the Semi-Finals. Claire did the math right this time, won her semi-final game by $1, and got her revenge on Audrey, after Audrey lost to Emma Arnold. In any event, it’s going to be a great 2-day final between Emma Arnold, Claire Sattler & Maya Wright, and I’m really interested to see who wins the $100,000 grand prize on Tuesday.

    • John Christian Ambion says:

@William Weyser It’s going to be very close, possibly repeating the two-day final in the 2012 Teen Tournament.

  4. John Christian Ambion says:

Emma Arnold v. Maya Wright v. Claire Sattler, this will be an exciting match-up in the first all-female TT final since Elyse Mancuso v. Catherine Briley v. Rose Schaefer in 2012. The three finalists have in common: they ended in FJ! in a “big payday”. Now, we’ll see who will win. If Mary Ann is watching, she would see the performances of these three young ladies.

    • John B./I. says:

@JCA, Of course you see something when you watch something…Are you going to watch the finals? I remember somebody who would not watch the WS, making accusations but never providing proof.
I will be watching the finals despite the fact that a “mixed” panel would have been more to my liking. But you have to stay open minded. You can’t put anything (information, knowledge, fair judgement etc) into a closed mind.

      • John Christian Ambion says:

@John B./I. Oh? If I would stay open-minded, my dignity would be put to shame and my confidence to myself will stoop so low. Every human has its dignity, you know.

        • John B./I. says:

@JCB, I guess you wanted to say : “If I would NOT stay open minded……”????
I remember how “open minded” you were re: the WS

  5. VJ says:

Well, I think that if they wanted better results than this, they should have saved that FJ for the College tournament or stuck with the Winnie-the-Pooh reference they had before. Of course, the video and all its many offspring wasn’t the only way to get this, though it appears that was what they were referencing.

Congrats to Emma for knowing it. See ya in the finals!

  6. Lou says:

And now the stage is set for the all ladies final next week. Congratulations to Emma. Hopefully Mary Ann will will be able to regain her confidence after the teen tournament is over. Also VJ otters are mammals if I am not mistaken right? Other animals that are mammals including dolphins, bears etc.

    • John B./I. says:

@Lou, Humans are mammals too….and animals. Mammals are a subspecies of animals. With some people you don’t even need scientific proof…😄😄

      • NickMullinix says:

Mammals are FAMILY in the animal KINGDOM. An example of a “Subspecies” would be: Siberian Tiger and Bengal Tiger are subspecies of tigers. Just thought you might like to be educated while you’re laughing at other people for making statements which were actually correct.

        • John B./I. says:

Humans – or homo sapiens- are mammals and as such classified as animals. Maybe you can educate yourself ?

  7. John B./I. says:

Well here we go. The finals are all set.
Congratulations to Emma, she made no mistake in her final wager..
Kudos also to VJ and JP for the correct prediction.
Somehow it is kind of bad that it is an all the same gender final yet again. Maybe a mixed final would have been more interesting and/or challenging for the players.
HAVE A NICE WEEKEND EVERYBODY!! Take a deep breath for the finals and on Wednesday Mary Ann will be back. I wonder how-if at all- the break has affected her?

    • John Christian Ambion says:

@John B./I. I made a bold prediction that a female will win the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament, and I was right all along, an all-female final is set and locked in. I hope that these three young ladies will impress us in the two-day affair, just like Buzzy Cohen vs. Alan Lin vs. Austin Rogers in the 2017 ToC, where they are became best of friends. It’s going to be a very CLOSE climax.

  8. Richard Corliss says:

And the gentleman streak is over.

  9. Richard Corliss says:

The different gender streak keeps on going. We still haven’t had a female vs. female vs. male or male vs. male vs. female ever since before Raynell Cooper won.
