WHAT IS THE JEFFERSON MEMORIAL?

The 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 1926 brought with it a plan to construct a memorial to its primary author, Thomas Jefferson. July 4, 1926 also marked 100 years since Jefferson’s death. However, construction did not begin until 1939. The Jefferson Memorial was completed in 1943, 200 years after Jefferson was born, and it was dedicated on April 13th, his birthday.

Cherry Tree Rebellion: The project didn’t move forward without opposition. One of the objections was the removal of cherry trees in the Tidal Basin. However, when presidential secretary, Marvin McIntyre, emerged instead to accept the petition, he was treated to a chorus of angry women chanting the Joyce Kilmer poem ‘Trees.'”

Kit thought it was the Lincoln Memorial. She lost $5,000 and finished with $5,600.

Leah had the Washington Monument. She bet and lost her whole $15,400.

Henry came up with Constitution Hall. He bet and lost his whole $16,700. That meant the last shall be first: Kit Sekelsky is advancing to the semi-finals.

As it sometimes happens, the end-game was nothing like the opening. Henry was going nowhere with his wrong responses. All 3 DDs were very knowable, but FJ was a brain-buster. All I could muster was “Smithsonian” which was pretty weak.

Figured someone would know the Spanish cape, since the answer was mostly given in the clue. No one knew the ancient dancer? Hmmm. And the saint on a medal went right over their heads.

Hasn’t aired on the Left Coast yet, but a former “J!” player is supposed to be on “Pyramid” tonight. (Christopher)

RE FJ wagers: there are different ways to parse this, but I’m thinking Leah should have bet $1301. Enough to pass Henry if she got FJ right and he got it wrong or bet $0. Kit’s $5K wager seemed a bit odd, unless she was trying to pass Leah in case the latter bet $0. $1301 would have won Leah the game even though she missed FJ.

A triple stumper for FJ, and I didn’t get it right either.

  3. Ismael Gomez says:

And we got a triple stumper as today’s final was a tough one.
