WHAT IS THE GREEN BOOK?
The entire intro to the 1948 edition of the Green Book is the opening paragraph of History.com’s article on the Green Book, which also tells us: “First published in 1936, the Green Book was the brainchild of a Harlem-based postal carrier named Victor Hugo Green…. Inspired by earlier books published for Jewish audiences, Green developed a guide to help black Americans indulge in travel without fear. The first edition of his Green Book only covered hotels and restaurants in the New York area, but he soon expanded its scope…. By the early 1940s, the Green Book boasted thousands of establishments from across the country, all of them either black-owned or verified to be non-discriminatory.” The “near future” took another 16 years when, in 1964, racial segregation in businesses and public places was banned by the Civil Rights Act. The Green Book published its last edition two years later.
The 2018 movie “Green Book” starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, featured the use of the guide on a trip through the Deep South in the 1960s. The film picked up 3 Oscars at the 2019 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Francis thought it was the Michelin Guide. He lost his $5,799 bet and finished with $1.00.
Tory got it right. She bet $7,899 and that brought her up to $15,799.
Cris came up with Zagar. He only lost $1,200 today and won the game with $27,600. Cris’ 4-day total is $111,058.

The triple stumper about the “membrane” in the eye is factually wrong. The membrane is the conjunctiva. The answer to the clue is not a membrane.
Jason, would it be okay if the clue just said “this part of the eye” etc.?
That would be clearer, and would likely lead to a correct response (or any response). I can tell you, if a player was a doctor, they would be confused, because the conjunctiva does have blood vessels (bloodshot eyes? That’s it). Just poorly written.
Thanks, Jason
Cris needs to watch more movies. He’s good, but not as good as my recent favorite, Matt Amodio (and not just because he’s like watching Albert Brooks’ son). He does two things that give him great advantage: only giving a last name, and employing the construct “What’s [Blank]?” It doesn’t happen often, but people miss because they have the wrong first name. The latter is just, well, economical, and frees up the mind to concentrate on the actual answer instead of worrying about phrasing. Genius. Can’t wait until TOC.
I picked AAA (Travel Guide) for FJ, but I knew that wasn’t going to leave the dock. As for the ‘Green Book’, I never heard of that publication.
Happy to see Tory getting final right today. Good game once again by Cris!
