Mark found the first Daily Double in “U.S. Museums” under the $1,200 clue on the 12th pick of the round. He was tied in second place with Anne at $8,200, $200 less than Ryan’s lead. Mark bet $3,000 and he was RIGHT.

WHO IS ROBINSON CRUSOE?

Scottish pirate and sailor, Alexander Selkirk mostly led an adventurous life, except for those 4 years (9/1704-2/1/1709) when he was marooned on the island called Más a Tierra (“close to land”) in the Juan Fernández Archipelago off the coast of Chile. In 2005, an archaeological expedition to the island found a fragment they identified as part of a nautical tool from around the time Selkirk was the only inhabitant of the island.

After his return to Britain, many adventures, real and imagined, were written or based on Selkirk. Most notably, when the novel “Robinson Crusoe” was published in 1719, the public associated Daniel Defoe’s shipwrecked hero with Selkirk right away. Scholars have ever since contended Crusoe was either modeled after others or was a composite of many, including Selkirk. Nonetheless Selkirk continues to be the top contender for Defoe’s inspiration, at least to the general public. Indeed, Selkirk’s birthplace in Scotland erected a statue in honor of their local bad boy in 1885, with a plaque declaring him “the original Robinson Crusoe”. In 1966, Más a Tierra was renamed Robinson Crusoe Island.

Anne went with Wallace. She lost $5,200 and finished with $5,000.

Ryan didn’t have a response. That cost him $5,201 and left him with $9,999.
