WHAT IS “DO THEY KNOW IT’S CHRISTMAS?”
Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats) and Midge Ure (Ultravox) co-wrote “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” near the end of 1984 to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia. They put together Band Aid, an all-star group of mostly British artists, to perform what became the fastest-selling single in U.K. chart history, raising millions for relief. In 1997, Elton John revised his “Candle in the Wind” (1974) tribute to Marilyn Monroe to honor Princess Diana, who died in a car crash at age 36 on 8/31/1997. “Candle in the Wind 1997” took over the title of fastest-selling U.K. single, selling over a million more copies than its predecessor, with the proceeds going to charity. See Wikipedia’s list of best-selling U.K. singles by year.
Ultimate Classic Rock has a “Where Are They Now” article about the Band Aid singers.
Dan had no response and he didn’t bet anything either. His score remained $8,200.
Kiki tried “Do You Wanna Dance?” That cost her $5,601 and left her with $5,199.
Will got it right. He bet $13,399 and won the game with $26,799. Will’s 3-day total is $55,598.

2 years ago: TWO of the players got this FJ in “AMERICAN COMPOSERS”
He turned to opera with the 1903 work “Guest of Honor”, likely inspired by Booker T. Washington’s dinner at the White House show

Good game, evenly-matched players. Kiki seemed poised to hold the lead, but missed that very knowable DD. I was temporarily stumped by FJ, but came up with it with maybe 10 seconds to go. Tough one, to be sure. (I was trying to think of something better than “Should I Stay or Should I Go?”) Didn’t expect anyone to know the junior circuit, a term I haven’t heard used in forever. A very old-school baseball term.
I did a little above average in the game, but had no clue as to the FJ. Well, it was a tough FJ to be sure. Anyways, it was another great game, and Will triumphed again.
