WHAT IS THE ALGONQUIN?

Harold Ross, Alexander Woolcott and Edna Ferber were 3 members of the literati who met regularly at the Algonquin during the 1920s. Celebrated for their rapier wit, the group was dubbed “the Vicious Circle”. Their most well-known member was Dorothy Parker, famous for satire and sarcasm. The Algonquin Hotel features a page with pictures and “mini-biographies” dedicated to the memory of 10 members of the Algonquin Round Table.

The last time they had a Final Jeopardy! clue about this group was on 12/3/2019, and it was a triple stumper.

Katy thought it might be the Chelsea. That didn’t lose anything, as she stood pat on her $5,800.

Emmanuel went to the Plaza. That cost him $6,400 and left him with $3,000.

Tom got it right. He won the game with $20,600 since he didn’t bet a sou. Tom Devlin’s 2-day total is $43,199.

How often does someone secure a lock game without having a shot at a single DD? Challengers were good, just not quite up to Tom’s level. Really didn’t know Final, but Algonquin was my educated guess. Dorothy Parker would have given it to me for sure.

Kinda surprised no one knew the 3-B Sinclair Lewis character or the ingots age. Totally shocked no one got that Final from two years ago.

Well, it wasn’t exactly the blow out I was hoping to see, but I agree that Tom’s runaway sans DDs was impressive. Also, Ken didn’t say Tom has a BIG lead. 🤣

I thought it was a little weird that they had a clue about an Algonquian word, but you probably only pick up on that when you know the FJ answer beforehand. Noel Coward was a member of the Round Table too, btw.
