Final Jeopardy: The Middle East (10-15-15)

The Final Jeopardy question (10/15/2015) in the category “The Middle East” was:

With an area of 4,000 square miles, it’s the only primarily Arabic-speaking country in the Middle East that has no desert.

New champ Michael Baker won $15,201 yesterday and the singular distinction of defeating 13-day champ, Matt Jackson. Today he takes on these two players: Dana Desprois, from Arlington, VA; and Josh Silverman, from Miami, FL.

Round 1: Dana found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Biographies” under the $600 clue. She was in third place with $1,600, $2,800 less than Josh in the lead. She made it a true Daily Double and and she was RIGHT.

That proved to be the last clue of the round. Josh finished in the lead with $15,200 but he no longer had a lock. Michael now had $10,600. Dana was in third place with $3,800.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS LEBANON?

Here is an excerpt from a post entitled “Lebanon is NOT a Desert” on “Simply Beirut”: “This post is a clarification for a friend… and everyone else in the USA who have been embedded with the idea that since Lebanon is in the Middle East, the topography consists of a dry, arid desert with sand dunes and camels grazing all over the place and old Bedouins dressed in white robes trailed by their four wives all dressed in black. Belly dancers and genies in a bottle. Something magical and mysterious straight out of Disney’s Aladdin. A popular misconception among Americans.” Besides explaining why Lebanon’s neighbors come there to escape the desert heat, it has some very nice photos.

Dana thought it was the United Arab Emirates. She lost her $3,000 bet and finished with $800.

Michael had the correct answer but crossed it out in favor of Bahrain. That cost him $4,601 and left him with $5,999.

Josh got it right. He bet $6,001 so he won the match with $21,201. He is the new Jeopardy! champ and a very exuberant one at that.

FJ Results: 10-15-15

Josh is a graduate student and a stand-up comedian. During the chat, he said he gets a lot of his material from his own life and from the news. Alex Trebek noted that the presidential election would be a good source of material. After Josh won, Alex said his Jeopardy! experience would yield even more material.

@VJ – I agree with you on Josh’s loudness, omg! That’s one of my biggest nightmares at work; some clients are so loud I have to ask them to go sit and talk outside. People like that can’t help shouting all the time. 🙂

    • VJ says:

yeah, wow, idk if he can help shouting all the time — maybe just on a stage given his line of work. I am very noise sensitive and startle way too easily, so I’ll just turn the volume down.

What did you think of the Halloween costume category today? I thought it was the perfect opportunity to tell you the twins are being Minnie and Mickey Mouse. We were first thinking of them being convicts with their parents being the police, but we decided to wait till they can walk so we can have a ball and chain, too. 🙂 🙂

      • Cece says:

I don’t think it’s due to his line of work, otherwise all stand up comedians would be loud—that’s what microphones are for, lol. He’s just loud, like the clients at my job.

To be honest I don’t remember the Halloween category, I was distracted by the bf constant chatter during the game. I love Minnie and Mickey Mouse for the twin’s costumes—how adorable! The thought of toddlers dressed as convicts made me laugh — you guys are crazy. :):)

Could be that Josh is the kind of comic who is “always on.” I gave him credit though for just giving a 2-word answer (“I’m excited”) when Alex mentioned a lot of material from the presidential election and not doing a Donald Trump impression or, like some others have, going blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah… LOL!!!!!!!! I hope I’m not getting a psychic vibe. There will be impressions in your future. OMG!!!!!

we got the convict idea on Amazon. They have the cutest costumes. LOL.

        • Cece says:

@VJ- Loved the convicted baby on the Amazon page. LOL!

yeah, the tattoos on the arms are the ultimate finishing touch!!

I’m sorry to read that Josh won this round. I’ll be skipping tomorrow’s program and checking here to see if he’s lost before starting to watch Monday’s episode. I just can’t handle his annoying voice.

39/56 here. Last night Michael wagered to win on the Triple Stumper. He didn’t do it tonight. Michael should have wagered $1400 or less to win on the Triple Stumper. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

Well, back to 1 day champ Jeopardy! 🙁 I probably wouldn’t try out for the show myself, but I’m very entertained by the show’s champions. Not necessarily this, but ya know.

    • VJ says:

I like Josh though he calls everything out pretty loud. I guess Alex would be wasting his time telling Josh to use his inside voice because that probably is his inside voice when he performs stand up comedy.
