WHAT IS BLOEMFONTEIN?
Either I’m not looking in the right places or there’s not much out there on the coat of arms of the judicial capital of South Africa. Heraldry of the World has scant info other than to note it is a “canting” arms (depicts the name: flower + fountain = Bloemfontein). “The crest,” they add, “is taken from the arms of 19th-century president Jan Brand. Until the 1950s, the name ‘Bloemfontein’ was inscribed on the shield, above the cornucopiae.” From that, wikipedia says the coats of arms was created in the 1950s but the first site doesn’t appear to know when it was created as they didn’t assign a “year created” category to it.
Winging it: the motto “Floreat” means “let flourish.” The supporters look like an impala and a greater kudu. (Just a guess from a city girl– cities where you don’t see antelope, that is.)
Christy wrote down Pretoria. She lost her $3,501 bet and finished with $7,899.
Lisa had Bloemfontain. Close enough. She bet it all and that brought her up to $27,600.
Paul came up with Cape Town. That cost him $12,701 bet so he ended up with $2,199. That made Lisa the new Jeopardy! champ. We will be seeing her again next Monday and we hope you’ll be back, too.
A triple stumper from each round:
BEFORE HE WAS PRESIDENT ($1000) In 1862 he was elected to his first office– ward supervisor in Buffalo, New York
THE NAME ON THE AIRPORT ($2000) The Milwaukee International Airport is named for this air power advocate who was later court-martialed

They were all too young to remember the Vitalis commercial and no more greasy kid stuff. Do they even make it any more?
I just looked on Amazon and they have Vitalis.
Brylcreem too. (a little dab’ll do ya)
Talk about going back in time we were in a store yesterday & we saw Ludens cough drops. We were surprised. Didn’t think they were still around.
LOL, Jacob, there’s a Michael’s arts & crafts store near here and near the register, they sell a lot of old time candy like Laffy Taffy and Bit O’ Honey. When I saw that it made me want to sing the Bit O’ Honey jingle but, like Christy said today, I’m sure everyone was grateful I didn’t, particularly my daughter.
You could tell that Lisa was very excited about getting an FJ that she knew right off the bat. But you could also tell that didn’t make her think that she won by her reaction when she did.

She seemed very sweet and gracious to me, too, the way she hugged the other contestants.
I agree, she is very sweet. Congrats to her on her win. But I hope this leader curse breaks before the college tournament in february of 2017. Also what does floreat mean on that coat of arms that was shown here?
It means the floor is so clean you can eat off it, Lou.
Just kidding. VJ put the meaning in the recap.
OMG, mimsy, that was hilarious!
@Lou, it’s in the paragraph under the image. Got it from M-W.
