WHAT IS THE GREAT BARRIER REEF?

According to a 2018 article in National Geographic, mass coral bleaching is a global problem triggered by climate change. It occurs when overheated ocean water wipes out a reef’s colorful algae. The coral starves to death. “The effect is akin to a forest after a devastating fire. Much of the marine ecosystem along the reef’s north coast has become barren and skeletal with little hope of recovery.” You need an online subscription to read Half of the Great Barrier Reef is Dead on National Geographic or read an excerpt here.

The Great Barrier Reef (Australia) is one of five coral reefs inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The others are: the Ningaloo Coast (also Australia), the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System (Belize), the Lagoons of New Caledonia (France) and the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon (Palau). UNESCO launched a 4-year $9 million initiative in 2018 to strengthen coral reef adaptation to climate change. Learn more.

Jeopardy FAIL. Geronimo was brought down by General Nelson A. Miles, after General Crook failed to do so.

    • VJ says:

Robert, I’m not sure what you failed to process here but no one said anything about Geronimo and he could not have been the answer in any event. The category was “C” LIFE, the year of death given was 1874 and Geronimo died in the 20th century.

Congrats to all the players on getting the final but still I don’t remember the movie lonesome dove but the book is written by Larry Mcmurtry. 40 wins is a record and Amy has recouped her loss from yesterday. I hope she hits a 70k record hopefully. Keep it going amy

“Lonesome Dove” wasn’t a feature movie. It was a 1989 6-hour TV miniseries starring Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones.
