Rachel found the last Daily Double in “Potent Poe Tales” under the $800 clue, with 8 clues left after it. In third place with $3,600, she had $8,000 less than Aaron’s lead. She made it a true Daily Double and said “the house with the crack in its wall.” Of course, she knew that was WRONG.

WHO IS TONY BLAIR?

Elizabeth II became queen of England upon the death of her father, George VI, on February 6, 1952. That occurred during Winston Churchill’s tenure as Prime Minister. Future PM Tony Blair was born on May 6, 1953. Elizabeth II had 9 other prime ministers between Churchill and Blair. Churchill and 3 others were born in the 19th century. Alec Douglas-Home was the first born in the 20th century. This page on wikipedia has a lot of tidbits like that and a sortable chart showing their dates of birth, age at appointment and more.

    So I guess this means Rachel is the first returning champ to wipe out before FJ! after Dylan Gallard. Oh well, whatever happens happens, it’s really no big deal.

    • William Weyser says:

      It’s Dylan Hamilton. He won 2 games, and won over $25,000, before his challengers in his 3rd game really destroyed him.

  2. Albert says:

    Was the word “purloined” pronounced in a strange way? I thought I heard something a little off when I heard the pronunciation.

  3. John Christian Ambion says:

    Oh dear, the true DD on Edgar Allan Poe made the DISMISSAL of the returning champion, and Aaron, well, he could be the spoiler.

  4. VJ says:

    Well, idk why I even thought it but I was hoping that the DD wasn’t in that Creatures with Blowholes category.

  5. Lou says:

    Too bad for Rachel that she was dismissed. Those daily doubles were not that hard at all. How come Rachel didn’t know that book by Edgar Allan Poe? But still congratulations to Aaron. I just hope that he could increase his confidence tomorrow. Alex got.kind of confused who defeated whom today. But still glad these guys got Tony Blair. What year did he leave office John and VJ?

    • John B./I. says:

      @Lou
      June 2007, just 2 years into his 3rd term as PM, though before the elections he promised to serve a FULL 5 year 3rd term.Brown took over till 2010 when he got defeated by Cameron and the Tories (conservative party). Cameron then became PM by forging a coalition with the Liberal Party and Cameron then won the 2015 election with an absolute majority.

    • John B./I. says:

      @Lou
      Lux et Veritas was a walk in the park if you know Latin….

  6. John B./I. says:

    So we are finally back to normal again! Congratulations to our – again new- champion, this time Aaron! And I guess rhonda got another carrot in the “clues” contest with the “Painter’s Masterpieces”!! What a difference a day makes! Today all 3 DDs were missed and I guess a lot of TS because the numbers before FJ are kind of low, also the opposite from yesterday.
    At least both players left got Blair, Brown was very close timewise….but I guess Blair was TOO prominent and caused quite a stir when he left office 2 years early causing Brown and the Labour Party a crushing defeat, so Cameron took over with the Liberals and won an outright majority in 2015, until May did a stupid snap election….

    • William Weyser says:

      Also, at the beginning of the episode, Alex said that Rachel, the astrophysicist, defeated a microbiologist. Here’s the problem: Rachel, the astrophysicist, defeated Haley, the copywriter. Haley, the copywriter, defeated John, the microbiologist. Alex, I do understand that you’re old, and your memory tends to fade a little bit, but REALLY? How could you forget?

      • John B./I. says:

        Guess Alex just got mixed up with the microbiologist and astrophysicist, 2 professions that are not exactly too common. Well, the mind sometimes plays some tricks on you….I think he’ll get his full paycheck anyway!LOL

      • Albert says:

        It’s not a big deal. Trebek doesn’t even know those people and forgets all about them 5 minutes after they are eliminated from the show.
