Final Jeopardy: Space (1-10-24)
The Final Jeopardy question (1/10/2024) in the category “Space” was:

Today’s Second Chance contestants are: Roy Camara, a grocery specialist from Crawfordville, FL; Michael Vallely, a program analyst from Cleveland, OH; and Denise Carlon, an attorney from Seaside Heights, NJ.

Roy found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Tex & The City” under the $800 clue just before the break. He was in the lead with $3,600, $200 more than Denise in second place. Roy bet it all and said Corpus Christi. That was WRONG.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE?
From Astronomy.com: “thanks to a quirk in Earth’s magnetic field, a region called the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) regularly exposes orbiting spacecraft to high levels of dangerous particles. Over the years, the SAA has been responsible for several spacecraft failures and even dictates when astronauts can and can’t perform spacewalks.”
Although this area (roughly stretching from lower South America across the South Atlantic to the African coast) isn’t triangular in shape, it has been nicknamed the Bermuda Triangle of Space. The original Bermuda Triangle is an area of the Atlantic Ocean where ships have mysteriously disappeared. The last time it was a Final Jeopardy! clue was on 4/12/2022 in Mattea Roach’s 6th game (and there’s a link in that recap to the one before that in a James Holzhauer game).
Michael wrote “Hi, Cleveland”, a shoutout to the city where he recently moved. He bet nothing and stayed at $3,200.
Denise got it right. She bet $10,401 and finished with $24,001.
Roy got it right, too. He bet $3,001 and won the game with $27,201. Roy Camara is our second finalist.
A triple stumper from each round:

As per usual, Howard said all of what I wanted to, more clearly and better written.
Only thing to add was the Final wager for Denise. I HOPE it was just a math error. Otherwise, no sense, at all.
“Hi Cleveland”? That had to be one of the easiest Finals ever.
Nice comeback by Roy, clearly the best of this bunch, but it was those last two cinch DDs that got him there. How he missed the first one I’ll never know. There can’t be too many million+ cities in Texas, and obviously Houston and Austin were not born in 1195.
They left some very gettable clues uncashed. The fraudulent schemer; the word for motor; elephant bones adjective; synonym for jeans; and French version of a girl’s name.
Hmmmm……I came up with ‘Cape Hatteras’ for FJ as that is what I usually associate the Bermuda Triangle for. I don’t suppose that Ken would give me credit for that. Well, a great game just the same!
