FCS Division I Davidson Beats Division III Guilford 91-61. In College Football, Not Basketball.
Davidson, the alma mater of the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, ran up a score that looked like something from a basketball game, beating Guilford, an NCAA Division III school in Greensboro, North Carolina 91-61 in a college football game on the evening of September 13th. The game had been scheduled for September 15th but had been moved up due to Hurricane Florence.
The question may be why the game had been scheduled at all. Davidson is a Division I school in football, albeit an FCS program, not an FBS one. Nonetheless, it was up against a school from a division that doesn’t give athletic scholarships. The Wildcats may want to ask themselves what kind of defense they have that allowed Guilford to score 61 points. (Imagine scoring 61 and still losing by 30.) The Quakers can definitely put points on the board, as they scored 61 points in their previous game, a 61-35 over Methodist University of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Methodist is a Division III School like Guilford.
Davidson had 964 total yards, and 685 of those were rushing yards. Both are NCAA records. Davidson used three quarterbacks, and only threw a total of eight passes in the game. They competed all eight, for 279 yards and three touchdowns. Guilford picked up a lot of yardage too, a total of 698. The combined total yardage of the two teams was 1662, which is 0.94 miles.
