Emmy Nominations for Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik

The 2023 Emmy Award nominations have been announced and Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik have both been nominated in the category Outstanding Host for a Game Show. My reaction to this news was to wonder if it’s too soon and also whether it even matters, when you look at who the co-hosts are up against:

Mayim Bialik, Jeopardy
Steve Harvey, Family Feud
Ken Jennings, Jeopardy
Keke Palmer, Password
Pat Sajak, Wheel of Fortune

It appears that Bialik and Jennings are also up against each other, which would be unfortunate at best given the relentless online hostility directed at Bialik. There’s already too much bickering with the constant flow of clickbait articles replete with mean tweets. To her credit, Miss Mayim’s classy reaction was shown by her tweet to Jennings upon learning the news:

“Congratulations @KenJennings on your first Emmy nomination !! I’m so happy for you! I’m thinking we go in matching tuxedos? Let’s discuss.”

I’m thinking — no, I’m hoping it won’t matter. I’m hoping Pat Sajak will win. In June 2023, the Wheel of Fortune host announced that he would retire after one more season of Wheel of Fortune. Sajak has won 3 Daytime Emmys for his work on the show. They should have nominated Bialik and Jennings as co-hosts, in my opinion, but Jeopardy!’s congratulatory tweet specifically mentions 3 nominations. Either way, I still think Pat Sajak’s experience and dry wit should triumph over the newbies.

VJ, Not really surprised about Mayim. She is quite popular in the entertainment circles. She’s been acting forever it seems to me. Everyone in those circles know her and I’m sure they’ve read the negative comments about her co-hosting Jeopardy. I guarantee you those negative comments did not sit well with other celebrities. Imo this is meant to show support for a “fellow” celebrity in face of adversity. Remember she does the Celebrity Jeopardy and not Ken. Speaking of Ken, it’s quite unusual to see co-hosts. Then to have them nominated in the same category is an anomaly. Personally, I think a sentimental point is being made with these nominations. I know some people might say it’s not fair but that’s how the Celebrity circle rolls. Who can forget Susan Lucci and her emmy nominations? Yikes.

I would hesitate to say who might win. Steve Harvey and Pat Sajak have also hosted Celebrity versions of their respective shows. I’ll just sit by the sidelines and see who wins.
