Eagles Lose Third Straight, Fall to Seahawks on Late Touchdown

Three weeks ago, the Philadelphia Eagles were 10-1, leading both the NFC East and leading in the race for the top playoff seed in the NFC. While they could still get that #1 seed, they currently have fallen to 2nd place in the East on tiebreakers to the Dallas Cowboys and are the fifth seed in the NFC.

On December 18th, the Seattle Seahawks behind journeyman quarterback Drew Lock drove 92 yards on 10 plays and scored a touchdown with 28 seconds left to give the Seahawks a 20-17 victory over Philadelphia. It was the Eagles’ third straight loss.

The defending NFC champion Eagles have clinched at least a wild card playoff slot, and could still win the East and that top seed. Philadelphia has a favorable schedule, playing the 5-9 New York Giants twice and hosting the 3-11 Arizona Cardinals in between. The Cowboys have a tougher road ahead, playing at the 100-4 Miami Dolphins, who are fighting for the top seed in the AFC and hosting the NFC North leading Detroit Lions (10-4) who are also in the running for the top seed in the NFC. Dallas finishes at Washington (4-10). The San Francisco 49ers (11-3) lead in the race for #1 in the NFC, and are the hottest team in the NFL. San Francisco is riding a six game winning streak, including a victory over Philadelphia. San Francisco also beat Dallas earlier this season, so they hold a tie breaker over both those teams. San Francisco has a huge game coming up on Christmas Day when they host the Baltimore Ravens (11-3), the leaders in the race for the AFC top seed. After that, San Francisco is at Washington and at the Los Angeles Rams (7-7) to close out the regular season.

Mark, That was a shocking game to watch. The Seattle Seahawks came into that game with a 6-7 record. Glad I’m not a betting guy. I would have favored the Eagles and lost a lot of money.
