Dodgers Sweep Two Games From Astros

The Los Angeles Dodgers played the Houston Astros in a two game set in Houston July 28th and 29th. It was the first time the two clubs played since it was revealed that the Astros stole the Dodgers’ signs in the 2017 World Series.

Of course there was an incident. Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly threw a pitch behind Alex Bregman. He also threw a pitch over Carlos Correa’s head. Kelly later denied throwing at the Astros, but was given an eight game suspension–pretty significant in a 60 game season. The Astros denied provoking Kelly; but they’ve got a target on their backs this year so they probably won’t go out of their way to make things worse. The Dodgers won the game 5-2.

With that out the way, Game 2 was quiet. This one went to the 13th inning, when L.A.’s Edwin Rios hit a leadoff two run home run in the top of the inning to give the Dodgers a 4-2 lead that wound up as the final score. Yes, a leadoff two run homer, the first ever in the majors, because each extra inning this season starts with a runner on 2nd base.

The Astros and Dodgers will play two more games on September 12th and 13th in Los Angeles.
