Dodgers Sweep Rockies, Lead N.L. West by 2 1/2 Games

The Los Angeles Dodgers trailed the Colorado Rockies by a half game in the National League West race when the two clubs opened a three game series in Los Angeles on September 17th. When the series concluded on the 19th, Los Angeles had a 2 1/2 game lead over its division rival after sweeping the three games from Colorado.

Dodger home runs led the way to victory. Los Angeles won the first game of the set 8-2 on a pair of home runs by Joc Pederson and a three run shot by Max Muncy; the Dodgers took Game 2 3-2 on a 10th inning homer by Chris Taylor. In the final game, Yasiel Puig belted a pinch hit three run homer that was the difference in a 5-2 Dodger victory.

Colorado trails Milwaukee by three games and St. Louis by a game and a half in the Wild Card standings. The Dodgers and Rockies have completed regular season play against each other, with the Dodgers winning 12 of the 19 games. L.A. has nine games left on its schedule, beginning with three at home against last place San Diego, followed by three at Arizona and three at San Francisco. The Rockies have three at Arizona, followed by four at home against Philadelphia and three at home against Washington.
