Detroit Tigers Edging Closer to Cleveland Indians in A.L Central Race
The Detroit Tigers let the non waiver trading deadline pass without making any moves, but they’ve been making some moves on the field itself. The Tigers won their seventh game in a row on August 2nd, beating the Chicago White Sox 11-5. Miguel Cabrera was 3 for 5 with a double and a home run. Cabrera has been red hot as of late, with 10 hits in his last 20 at bats with four homer and 10 RBIs in that stretch. He’s hitting .306 with 24 homers and 63 RBIs.
The Tigers improved their record to 58-48 and are three games behind front running Cleveland in the A.L Central. The Indians have lost two in a row. Cleveland added a top level reliever before the trading deadline, picking up lefty Andrew Miller from the New York Yankees. However, the Indians will be without right handed starter Danny Salazar (11-4, 3.38 ERA) for a while as he was placed on the 15 day disabled list with elbow inflammation. Looking ahead, Cleveland and Detroit have seven games with each other left on the schedule, all of which are in the second half of September. So far, Cleveland holds a lopsided 11-1 record against the Tigers.
