Denver Wins NCAA Hockey Title for A Record 10th Time

The Denver Pioneers beat the Boston College Eagles 2-0 on April 13th in St. Paul to win the NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament. It was the 10th Frozen Four championship for Denver; the Pioneers broke a tie with Michigan for the most championships ever. Denver has now won two of the last three championships.

Both Denver goals came in the second period, with Jared Wright and Rieger Lorenz each scoring one. Lorenz also picked up an assist on Wright’s goal. Denver goalie Matt Davis had 35 saves.

Denver edged Boston College 2-1 in overtime in its semifinal, while Boston College breezed past Michigan 4-0. The Eagles were at or near the top of the polls all season, and had a prolific offense that hadn’t been shut out all season. BC finishes with a record of 34-6-1, with two of those losses being to Denver. The two played each other on BC’s home ice way back on October 21st, with the Pioneers prevailing 4-3. Denver ends the season 32-9-3 and the championship.
