David Wright Returns to Mets with Style, Hits Home Run

The New York Mets are leading the National League East, and now have one more weapon in their arsenal as they try to hold off the Washington Nationals. On August 24th, slugging third baseman David Wright returned from the disabled list and was in the lineup for the Mets game at Philadelphia against the Phillies. Wright had played in just eight games back in April before going on the disabled list with spinal stenosis.

Wright picked up where he’d left off, a hit a home run into the second deck at Citizens Bank Park. The rest of the team got into the act, with Mets hitters bashing seven more homers in the game, including two by shortstop Wilmer Flores. The eight home runs were a Mets’ single game club record. When the carnage was over, New York beat the Phillies 16-7.

The Mets are expected to ease Wright back into action, but even if he’s a part time player for a while he’s a great option off the bench. Washington’s task of overtaking the Mets just got a little bit harder.
