Cleveland Indians’ Lonnie Chisenhall Has Career Day

Cleveland Indians infielder Lonnie Chisenhall isn’t one of the more recognizable names in major league baseball, or at least he wasn’t until Cleveland’s 17-7 trouncing of the Texas Rangers on June 9th.  Chisenhall is in his fourth season and is having what is shaping up to be a breakout year after three years as a part time player, and he had a game he will long remember in that victory over the Rangers.

Chisenhall was five for five at the plate, with three homers, a double, and nine runs batted in.  He raised his batting average to .385, though he is not among the league leaders due to only having 161 at bats.  He’s got seven homers and 35 RBIs on the season, and raised his slugging percentage to .615.  Those numbers are better than a lot of starters have at this point in the season.

Well after that, Chisenhall’s days as a part time player are most likely behind him, at least for a while.  He plays first and third and can, of course, be the designated hitter in the American League, so there are a few options for him to be in the lineup every day.
