Christoph Waltz Gets a Christmas Sweater on the Tonight Show

2-time Academy Award winner, Christoph Waltz stopped by The Tonight Show on 12/20/2017 to talk about his role in the comedy “Downsizing” (opening in theaters on December 22nd).

Before they got to that, the actor said “Bah, Humbug!” to Jimmy’s suggestion that he was in the holiday spirit and was happy that it was the Christmas season. “Look at Fifth Avenue,” Christoph pointed out, “millions of lemmings, on their way to the abyss.” Jimmy decided that the reason for this lack of holiday enthusiasm had to be because Christoph needed a festive holiday sweater so he gave him this one:

Yep, modeled it and wore it the whole time!

Then they talked about the film, which stars Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig, whom Christoph said he had a crush on. Alexander Payne is the director and Jimmy Fallon said “He’s the real deal.”

Christoph agreed: “He was so real, he didn’t want me for the part,” but, as good actors, do he talked Payne into it although it was an uphill battle because he wanted someone young and flashy.”

The premise of the movie is that you can shrink yourself to about 5 inches tall and have a better life, but if you do, you can never go back to normal size. “I know what I would do,” Christoph said, “stay big,” pointing out that you wouldn’t want to be 5 inches tall walking down the street with “all the dogs and rats.”

Christoph plays Matt Damon’s eccentric neighbor. “It’s a lovely movie,” he said, “It’s fun, it’s wonderful to watch and you take something home to think about and that’s more than you can say for most of the others.”
