Chris Sale Shines in Otherwise Forgettable Season for White Sox

Through games of July 6th, the Chicago White Sox were 37-43, tied for last place in the American League Central Division. A lot of the problem is the club’s inability to score runs; they are dead last in the majors in this category. One of the few bright spots in what is shaping up as a lost season has been the play of starting pitcher Chris Sale.

Sale pitched a 4-2 complete game victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on July 6th, allowing just six hits, striking out six, and walking none.

Sale had eight consecutive starts with double digit strikeouts before this game; Sale is tied with the Dodger’s Clayton Kershaw for the major league lead in strikeouts with 147, and has an ERA of 2.80 to go with his 7-4 record, which would be much better if he had some offense. Sale has a 4-3 loss, a 2-1 loss, and 2-1 and 3-2 no decisions this season. Sale is also the White Sox’ lone representative on the American League’s All Star Team.
