Casting Moe Howard

Now that it’s been announced that the roles of Curly Howard and Larry Fine have been cast in the Three Stooges (2012) film, they just need to cast the mean stooge, Moe Howard.

That’s interesting because we would have thought the role of Curly would have been the hardest to cast. But Deadline reports that the Farrelly Brothers will begin production later this month, so they should resolve their casting dilemma fairly soon.

Some of the names we’ve seen being thrown around include Johnny Knoxville and Benicio Del Toro, with Peter Farrelly confirming that Benicio was a front-runner back in January.

John Bryant Davila has also been mentioned, and there’s a Facebook page promoting John Mariano as a great Moe.

There’s also some concern that the slapstick humor complete with real slapping, punching, kicking and eye-poking is not going to appeal to modern audiences, particularly in a feature length film, but the Farrelly Brothers are putting together three shorts which, including the breaks, will total about 85 minutes. If you enjoy the 10 minute “Three Stooges” youtube tribute we’ve posted, imagine watching more of the same stuff a little bit more than 8 times all at once and if you’re still gung-ho, you’ll probably like The Three Stooges (2012).
