Bruins Eliminate Maple Leafs With Four Goal Third Period

After falling behind three games to one in their first round Stanley Cup matchup with the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs came roaring back to tie the series at 3-3 and set the stage for a decisive Game 7 in Boston on April 25th. In 2013, Toronto fell behind Boston 3-1, won the next two, and then lost Game 7 in overtime after blowing a 4-1 third period lead. The Maple Leafs would now have their chance to make up for that.

This time, Toronto took a 4-3 lead into the third period. The Bruins came out with all cylinders firing. Torey Krug scored at just a minute 10 into the period to tie it, and Jake DeBrusk put the Bruins ahead at the 5:25 mark. Boston would add two more goals and shut down the Maple Leafs to win 7-4, again crushing the hopes of the Toronto faithful.

The Maple Leafs haven’t been to the Stanley Cup Finals since winning the Cup in 1967. They’ve been making progress–two post seasons in a row after missing 10 of the previous 11 post seasons–but still have to figure out how to close it out.

The Bruins move on to face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round.
