Boston Celtics Beat Memphis 116-96 for 14th Straight Win at Home

Isaiah Thomas scored 22 points to lead the Boston Celtics over the Memphis Grizzlies 116-96 on March 9th. Seven Celtics scored in double figures, including three players off the bench. It’s always good when your bench can contribute that much in a game.

It was Boston’s 14th straight win at home; they haven’t lost at TD Garden since January 6th, when they lost 99-94 to the Detroit Pistons. In that span, they’ve quietly moved up in the standings. The Celtics (39-26) are currently the third seed in the NBAs Eastern Conference, behind the front running Cleveland Cavaliers (45-18) and second place Toronto Raptors (42-20).

The Celtics tailed off to 25-57 two years ago in a transition year for the franchise when ex Butler University coach Brad Stevens took over after nine years under Doc Rivers. They improved to 40-42 last year. The Celtics will probably have to improve a little on the road, where they are 16-16 to return to elite status, but at the rate they’ve improved under Stevens, that could happen as soon as next season. Meanwhile, they’re certainly good enough to go deep into the playoffs this year.
