Beat Shazam Recap: September 4, 2018

Just 2 weeks ago, they had identical twins on Beat Shazam. This week (9/4/2018) they’ve got siblings but they’re not twins. Jamie Foxx opened the show with his DJ daughter, Corinne. The contestants were then introduced:

  • CA: Liz & Kate, sisters from San Francisco who went to the same college and joined the same sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta
  • IL: George & James, brothers from Chicago. Their dad is from Greece and they gave us 2 different definitions of “opa”
  • MS: Jennifer & Randall, from Biloxi, who are southern through and through. Randall’s thick southern accent threw Jamie for a loop, even though he was “not trying to be stereotypical,” because they are of Asian descent.

If you have not seen this episode and still plan to, STOP READING. The correct responses and scores after each song are in this recap.

FAST TRACK: “Let’s Go Crazy”
CA $66,000 IL $52,000
Liz & Kate win with the only right title.

George & James keep half of their bank so they are returning to the Land of Lincoln with $26,000, a most respectable sum for an hour’s work. Liz & Kate move on to the final round where each song is worth big bucks and, if they get them all, they have a shot at even bigger bucks.

One Million Beat Shazam Round – 6 songs
First 5: $25,000 each. They only get a shot at the million if they get all 5 right. There are no multiple choice screens and they have to know the song’s exact title before Shazam to be right.
1. ’60s: “California Dreamin’” (The Mamas & The Papas) – They nailed it. $91,000
2. CANADIANS: “Photograph” (Nickelback) – Kate guessed “You Remind Me”
3. ELTON JOHN: “Daniel” – Liz guessed “Rocket Man” while her fiance dropped his head into his hands in the audience.
4. PARTY SONGS: “Good Feeling” (Flo Rida) – They were close with “I got a good feeling” but close doesn’t count
5. CHART TOPPERS: “Right Here Waiting” (Richard Marx) – Again they gave more than the actual title, adding “I will be” before the title. They began the round with $66,000 and finished with $91,000.

Liz & Kate can play another song and double their $91,000 to $182,000 if they get that song right. If they don’t know the exact title of the song they will lose half their money and go home with $45,500. The category was “Divas.” The ladies chose to walk because their causes are too important to them to risk losing half that money. They played the last song for fun and they knew it was Whitney Houston but came up with “The Greatest Love of All.” It was “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”

Was anyone else precalling a Beyonce song in “Divas” because it was her birthday?
