Beat Shazam Recap: August 19, 2019

Here’s a recap of the August 19th, 2019 episode of Beat Shazam with host Jamie Foxx and his deejay daughter, Corinne Marie. It was called “Air… Sea… Hawaii,” after the contestants. Jamie said to be great at this game you have to know all types of music: “from Nickelback to 50 Cent, from The Police to Public Enemy.”

Here are the 3 teams:

  • Lettice & James, mother & son in a military family from Havelock in the Tarheel State (NC)
  • Shea & Amber, flight attendants from Lincoln in the Golden State & Herndon in the Old Dominion (CV)
  • Tim & Will, radiologists by day and deejays by night, from Mililani in the Aloha State (HA)

If you have not seen this episode and still plan to, STOP READING. The correct responses and scores after each song are in this recap.

Tim and Will (HA) got into a tie with Lettice & James (NC) with the Fast Track win. Shea & Amber (CV) still need to get on the board.

Round 2: That’s My Jam! Two votes went to ONE HIT WONDERS so Number One Hits was out.

HA scooped up the double cash with the only correct title. The other teams went with “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?”, the first of many hits for Culture Club.

Sadly, it was the end of the line for Shea & Amber (CV). At least they got a shot at sticking around there. Tim & Will (HA) have a $12,000 lead over Lettice & James (NC) going into Round 3. Huge, but not insurmountable.

Round 3: Corinne’s Choice this week is: BLACK EYED PEAS
First 3: $5000 each. Fast Track: $10,000.
1. “Let’s Get It Started”
NC $11,000 HA $18,000
NC got this one at 1.61 to HA’s 2.08, narrowing down that big lead by quite a bit.
2. “Boom Boom Pow”
NC $11,000 HA $23,000
HA took this one at 1.24 to 1.85, shooting right back up there.
3. “Pump It”

4. FAST TRACK: “Where is the Love?”
NC $11,000 HA $38,000
Both teams got it in less than 2 seconds but HA was faster than ever at 1.13

Tim & Will (HA) had a splendid round and increased their lead. They now have $27,000 more than Lettice & James (NC). Will they be able to maintain in the toughest round where $50,000 is up for grabs?

Round 4: Without Words
First 3: $10,000 each. Fast Track: $20,000. High score goes on to try to Beat Shazam.
1. “Are You Gonna Go My Way?” (Lennie Kravitz)
NC $11,000 HA $48,000
HA is on a roll! They got it at 1.17 to NC’s 1.61
2. “How Will I Know” (Whitney Houston)
NC $11,000 HA $58,000
HA had the right title. NC went with “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”
3. “Baker Street” (Gerry Rafferty)

HA had the only correct title again. NC had “You Belong to the City”
4. FAST TRACK: “Numb” (Linkin Park)
NC $11,000 HA $88,000
Both teams came in under 2 seconds. HA won it at 1.57 to 1.84

Lettice & Tim (NC) are taking home half their bank: $5,500. That was a perfect round for Tim & Will and they will now go on to the last round to see how much more money than can make!

One Million Beat Shazam Round – 6 songs
First 5: $25,000 each. They only get a shot at one million dollar on the last song if they get the first 5 right. There are no multiple choice screens and they have to know the song’s exact title before Shazam to be right
1. CLASSIC ROCK: “Come Sail Away” (Styx) – Tim tried “The Winner Takes It All” and Will said he didn’t know it because he’s “a milennial.”
2. MADE IN THE U.K.: “Bleeding Love” (Leona Lewis) Will rang right in on this one $113,000.
3. OLDIES: “Monday, Monday” (The Mamas & The Papas) – They didn’t clock in before time ran out.
4. ALTERNATIVE: “Good” (Better than Ezra) – They didn’t clock in fast enough again
5. LOVE SONGS: “My Cherie Amour” (Stevie Wonder) – Another $25K in the bank. They began the round with $88,000 and finished with $138,000.

It’s always a let-down when the winning team loses their shot at the million on the first song, but Tim and Will still have the chance to double their money. If they play this last song and they are right, they will win $276,000. If they don’t get it right, they will lose half their money and will be left with $69,000. That’s still better than double or nothing, right? Jamie told them the last category was DANCE HITS to help them decide. Will said they like to travel to Vegas. “We’re gamblers and we’re gonna go for it!” Tim took up the challenge and not only gave the song title but the artist as well: “Temperature” by Sean Paul

Congrats to Tim & Will on doubling your money. That was just awesome!
