One Million Beat Shazam Round – 6 songs
First 5: $25,000 each. They only get a shot at the million if they get all 5 right. There are no multiple choice screens and they have to know the song’s exact title before Shazam to be right.
1. Boy Bands: “Larger Than Life” (Backstreet Boys) – that’s a winner! $89,000
2. Commodores: “Nightshift” – “Jheri-curl music,” Jamie said. “Talk to Me,” Ally said, and there went the shot at the million.
3. Pop: “Heart Attack” (Demi Lovato) – After buzzing in, Ally blanked out on it.
4. Made in the U.K.: “You’re My Best Friend” (Queen) – Another win $114,000
5. Folk: “Like a Rolling Stone” (Bob Dylan) – Instant recognition. Ally’s in-laws worked security on a recent Bob Dylan concert in Nebraska. They began the round with $54,000 and finished with $139,000.
Ally & Michelle can now double their money to $278,000 by taking on and beating Shazam on the last song, or they can just skedaddle with the $139,000. If they lose to Shazam, they lose half and would be left with $69,500. Before they have to decide, they are told the category: One-Hit Wonders. Well, we would be outta there pronto. As Ally said: “it could be anything.” HOWEVER, they decided to go for it. “We didn’t come all the way here just to go home,” Michelle said, “We came here to beat Shazam.” Michelle said that Ally would play because her nickname is “Shaz-Ally.” Ally knew the song instantly and the artist, too: “‘She’s So High'”, Tal Bachman” she exclaimed, and got more than a little overwhelmed at her good fortune.
The ladies plan to use some of their winnings to help their school and their families and, in Ally’s case, to expand her family– she’s planning on having 5 kids! Congratulations! There were some great coincidences with the songs chosen tonight and events in Ally’s life and it paid off handsomely.
