Barry Bonds Can’t Figure Out Why No One Likes Alex Rodriguez

Barry Bonds told USA Today that he can’t figure out why baseball isn’t celebrating as Alex Rodriguez closes in on Willie Mays’ 660 home run mark, the fourth highest career total. Rodriguez had 655 through games of April 12th, but the New York Yankees are basically ignoring the pending milestone and Bonds says he doesn’t understand it.

Gee Barry, maybe it’s because Rodriguez is returning from a one year suspension for use of performance enhancing drugs in the infamous Biogenesis Scandal. He has also admitted using steroids in the early 2000s. The Yankees and a lot of baseball fans don’t take kindly to this kind of thing, and the Yankees have come out and said that his records are tainted. New York still owes Rodriguez $61 million for the remainder of his contract, so however distasteful, he’s with the team and actually playing well after a year layoff. The saddest part of this is that ARod is a superb player even without the PEDs. He doesn’t need them, and we believe he would have had a Hall of Fame career without them, albeit with numbers a little less than what he’s had thanks to artificial enhancement. The Hall voters don’t favor PED users in the voting, so don’t hold your breath, Barry, waiting for ARod to get voted in after he retires.

This headline caused me to laugh so hard it hurt. Also, thank you for honoring the great Willie Mays.
