Banged up Cavaliers Even Series With Golden State
The Cleveland Cavaliers lost Kyrie Irving with a knee injury, joining Kevin Love who was injured earlier in the playoffs, but they showed in Game 2 of the NBA Finals that they will not go quietly as they fought their way to a 95-93 overtime win over the Golden State Warriors in Oakland on June 7th. The win evened the series at a game apiece.
The shorthanded Cavaliers still have an uphill battle, but as long as they have LeBron James, they still have a chance. James had a triple double, scoring 39 points and grabbing 16 rebounds to go with 11 assists. As usual in these situations, someone else stepped forward with a significant contribution; in this case it was Matthew Dellavedova. Dellavedova hit two key free throws in overtime, but also contributed on defense in his matchup with Stephen Curry. Curry had a rare bad game, missing 13 of 15 tree point shots, an NBA finals record for futility. Klay Thompson led Golden State’s scoring with 34 points.
The series moves to Cleveland for Games 3 and 4 on June 9th and 11th.
