Avalanche and Bruins Advance in Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Colorado Avalanche showed why they won the President’s Trophy for the best regular season record in the NHL by sweeping the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Colorado beat St. Louis 5-2 on May 23rd to complete the four game sweep, and outscored the Blues 20-7 in the four games.

The Blues won the Stanley Cup in the 2018-19 season, but since then, they’ve made early exits. Last year, they lost to Vancouver 4-2 in the 1st round of the playoffs. Colorado will play the winner of the Minnesota-Vegas series next.

And speaking of 1st round exits by recent Cup winners, the Boston Bruins beat the Washington Capitals 3-1 to take their 1st round series 4-1. Washington had won Game 1, but Boston then won four straight. The Capitals won the Cup in the 2017-19 season, but have now lost in the 1st round of the playoffs three years in a row since then.

Boston will play the winner of the New York Islanders-Pittsburgh series next.
