Arizona Diamondbacks Epic Losing Season Continues

The 2021 baseball season has not been kind to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The club was a major league worst 20-47 going into games of June 15th, had a losing streak of 11 straight, and had lost 20 in a row on the road. It looked like the Diamondbacks might finally break out of it at San Francisco on June 15th, but the Giants had other plans.

In that game, Arizona got off to a 7-0 lead in the second inning—Giants starter Zack Littell allowed four earned runs and didn’t retire a batter in the first—but San Francisco chipped away at that lead. The Giants scored three runs in the second and two in the sixth, while the Diamondbacks added one in the fifth inning. Still, Arizona had an 8-5 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Giants loaded the bases in the eighth, and with two outs, Mike Yastrzemski hit a one ball, two strike changeup to right field for a home run. The Giants took a 9-8 lead, and the Diamondbacks went down in order for their 12th straight loss and 21st on the road.

The Diamondbacks have an opportunity to tie the record of 22 consecutive road losses (set by the 1943 Philadelphia Athletics and tied by the 1963 New York Mets) when they close out their series at San Francisco on June 16th.
