American Pharoah Returns to the Track, Wins Again
Triple Crown winner American Pharoah ran in his first race since winning the Belmont Stakes back in June, and his August 2nd return to the track showed he hasn’t missed a beat.
American Pharoah ran in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in New Jersey, and at post time was a 1-9 (!) favorite. He did not disappoint the nearly 61,000 in attendance. After keeping pace for the first three quarters of the race, AP turned on the after burners down the stretch. He won by 2 ½ lengths, but that was only because jockey Victor Espinoza eased up and let the horse cruise to victory once the lead was insurmountable:
So what’s next? The conventional thinking is that AP will close out his racing career at the Breeder’s Cup on October 31st, and probably one more race that has yet to be decided sometime in late August or September.
