Allyson Felix Wins Record 11th Olympic Medal; Men’s and Women’s 400m Relay Teams Sweep Gold

Allyson Felix won a U.S. record 11th Olympic Medal as the U.S. Women’s 4 X 400 relay team took the gold in one of the last track events of the Tokyo Olympics. Felix passed Carl Louis when she won bronze in the Women’s 400 meters earlier in the games, her 10th medal. This is the 35 year old’s fifth, and final Olympics.

The U.S. Men’s 4 X 400 followed the women’s lead and also won the gold, partially making up for a poor showing in the 4 X 100 (not even making it to the finals), an event they have usually dominated.

The U.S. ended the games with the most medals of any nation, with 39 gold, 41 silver, and 33 bronze. The U.S. passed China for the most golds late in the games; the Chinese had the second most at 38, as well as the second most total medals at 88.

Speaking of China, with the Summer Games delayed a year, we are just six months away from the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Those games run from February 4th—20th 2022.
