Alabama Holds Off Georgia, Moves to #1 in the AP College Football Poll

The much anticipated matchup between #2 Georgia and #4 Alabama looked like it would be a blowout for the Crimson Tide in the first half. Alabama jumped off to a 28-0 lead and took a 30-7 lead into the locker room at halftime. But Georgia came storming back in the second half, and took the lead at 34-33 following a 67 yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck to Dillon Bell with 2:31 left in the fourth quarter. But Alabama retook the lead for good just 13 seconds later after Jalen Milroe completed a 75 yard TD pass to Ryan Williams. Following the two point conversion, the Crimson Tide came away with a 41-34 win.

Beck passed for 439 yards and three touchdowns, but also had three intercepted. Milroe threw for 374 yards and two TDs, with one interception. He also ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Alabama (4-0) moved all the way up to #1 in the AP Poll, while Georgia (3-1) fell to #5. Last week’s #1, Texas, remained undefeated at 5-0 after beating Mississippi State (1-4) but the pollsters were not impressed and they dropped the Longhorns to #2. Ohio State (4-0) remained #3 while Tennessee (4-0) moved up to #4.
