After Horrible Start to Season, Edmonton Oilers Clinch Playoff Berth

The Edmonton Oilers started the 2023-4 season on a bad note. They were 2-9-1 before winning three in a row, only to negate that with three straight losses. Coach Jay Woodcroft was fired on November 12th and was replaced by Kris Knoblauch.

That seemed to have had a positive effect on the then underperforming Oilers. Edmonton had a 16 game winning streak in December and January, propelling the Oilers toward a playoff berth. That goal was achieved on April 5th, when Edmonton beat the visiting Colorado Avalanche 6-2. Connor McDavid and Evander Kane each scored a pair of goals and Leon Draisaitl had two assists. With seven games left in the regular season, Edmonton, with 97 points, has an outside shot at winning the Pacific Division. The Vancouver Canucks with 102 points are currently on top of the Division. Edmonton has one game left with Vancouver on April 13th.
