Actor Abe Vigoda Passes Away at Age 94

We learned about the passing of Abe Vigoda on Twitter from Maureen Van Zandt, who played Silvio Dante’s wife, Gabriella, on HBO’s hit mob series, The Sopranos.” Her real life husband, Steven Van Zandt, played Silvio. Maureen tweeted two simple words and, as fans of the “Godfather” films, we knew what that meant immediately.

Vigoda’s daughter confirmed that her father died of old age at her New Jersey home on Tuesday morning, January 26, 2016. Social media reports included the phrase “this is not a hoax,” because reports of the actor’s death have been circulating for over two decades. When People Magazine reported that he had died in 1982, the actor took out an ad in Variety accompanied by a picture of himself sitting up in a coffin.

Detective Phil Fish was another character that Vigoda was well-known for in the 1970s in the Barney Miller police sitcom starring Hal Linden. Vigoda’s character was so popular that he got a spin-off series simply called “Fish” that ran for a year at the same time as the original sitcom.

See his New York Times obituary for complete details.

I’ve never seen him in anything, but I was surfing channels this afternoon and a classic TV network was showing the police sitcom he starred in. There was some kind of goodbye get together with coworkers who presented his character with a NY city municipal bond. He sarcastically said something like, Aww, to be cashed in 1997….I’ll be 83 then!

And maybe also in real life he never thought he’d live to be 94.

I used to watch Barney Miller from time to time but I still always thought of Abe Vigoda as Tessio. :):)

Check this article out if you want to see something really tacky! OMG!! I can’t believe that headline.

Tacky indeed. The whole article made me LOL! OMG, what’s wrong with that Tuchman? He says that anyone over the age of 40 has learned by now of the death of Abe V. What does he think, people under 40 don’t learn of current events and don’t watch old movies? What an idiot this guy is.

Besides, many people under 40 have seen The Godfather I, II…V, XIII. I haven’t because ‘shooting of people by machine guns-severed animal heads left in peoples’ doorstep/bed-people garroted and shot in the eye’ type of movie is not my cup of tea.

ha ha ha. Some of my favorite quotes are from The Godfather. (I’m smart and I want respect!)

As for the article, it was really hard to believe he saw the actor’s death as an opportunity to promote his wisdom, but there it was!

I wonder how his family would feel about the article if they saw it.

Anyway, maybe you could make a post of The Godfather quotes.
(And also one of Robin Williams’ ):):)

And speaking of Robin Williams, (and my description of TGF movie) reminds me of a hilarious scene in one of his old movies—The Fisher King— where a crazy video store customer says: ” What I’m in the mood for is sort of a Katherine-Hepburny, Cary-Granty kinda thing. Nothing heavy; I couldn’t take heavy. Something zany! I’m looking for something zany… or something modern would be fine, too…” (I can’t include the response by Jeff Bridges character ’cause this is a family site.)
