TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR”?

Alice is the first name of Mistress Ford and Margaret is the first name of Mistress Page, the two merry wives in Shakespeare’s comedy “The Merry Wives of Windsor.” These two ladies are being courted by Sir John Falstaff in an effort to improve his financial status. This is the third Shakespeare play that Falstaff appeared in. The others were Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2, first performed in 1600. Falstaff does not appear in “Henry V”, but he is eulogized in Act II, Scene III by Mistress Quickly who herself appears in all four of the aforementioned plays.

Bridget got it right. She didn’t bet anything so she finished with the $3,600 she started out with.

Carter got it right, too. He bet $3,801, just enough to top Matt’s score by a dollar.

Matt responded with the “Two Gentlemen of Verona”. That cost him $10,000 and left him with $7,400. So Carter Lockwood won the game and he will be the returning champ on President’s Day.

Trying to figure out why Carter reminds me of a young John Cusack.

I looked it up to check. Mistress Page’s first name was Anne not Margaret.

For the LANDINGS category clue “In 2019 China’s Chang’e 4 probe made the first landing here, a place not even glimpsed by humanity until 1959″ the question accepted, What is the dark side of the Moon?” is INCORRECT. There is no such place. The correct question is: What is the far side of Earth’s Moon? There is no permanent dark or light side of Earth’s Moon.

    • Doug says:

I completely agree with you on the incorrectness if the response. However, if you stood on the sun there would appear to be a dark side of the moon. 😜

      • John says:

Wrong – if you stood on the Sun (not recommended) you would only ever see the “light” side.

  4. Louis says:

Matt and Carter were quick on the buzzer today and Bridget couldn’t catch up to them. Let’s see if Carter can get a streak going next week. I always enjoyed reading Shakespeare back in grade school because Romeo and Juliet along with Richard the third were my favorite plays.
