Amy got the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “A Fair Piece of Entertainment” under the $800 clue on the 16th pick. She was in the lead with $4,200 now, $2,800 more than Bonnie in second place. Amy bet $3,000 and she was RIGHT.
This British event ended in 1788, but is remembered largely thanks to a Simon & Garfunkel song. show
Amy finished in the lead with $9,400. Taylor was second with $3,000 and Bonnie was last with $2,600. No clues went uncovered.

Taylor found the first Daily Double in “Poetry Collections” under the $1,600 clue on the 13th pick. He was in second place with $11,400 when he found it but, after a reversal (see below), he had $9,000. Amy was leading with $13,000. Taylor bet $2,000 and guessed “The Queen”. That was WRONG.

Taylor got the last Daily Double under the $2,000 clue in “Overseas Territories” on the very next selection. In second place with $7,000, he had $5,000 less than Amy’s lead. Taylor made it a true Daily Double and tried New Brunswick. That was WRONG.
Though part of its name was a Roman designation for Scotland, this “New” Pacific island territory belongs to France. show
Amy finished in the lead with a runaway $23,800. Bonnie was second with $5,000 and Taylor was last with $800. No clues went uncovered.

WHAT IS THE THIRD PUNIC WAR? (PUNIC WARS or CARTHAGINIAN WARS also acceptable)
Three separate Punic Wars took place from 264 and 146 BC. Rome won all three, but only the first and second ended with a treaty. Per History World, “The treaty after the second Punic war is even more damaging to Carthage than its predecessor. She must surrender Spain and all her remaining islands in the Mediterranean…. And she is to submit to Rome in all matters of war and foreign policy.” The Romans started a third war in 150 BC claiming the Carthaginians broke the last treaty when they defended themselves against an invading neighbor. “Delenda est Carthago (Carthage must be destroyed) becomes the obsessive refrain of Cato, a leading orator in Rome.” For the next 3 years, Rome laid siege to Carthage, burning the city to the ground and selling some 50K survivors (out of a population of 250K) into slavery.
It seems to me that after such an utter annihilation, a peace treaty would be pointless. The Carthaginians were left with nothing. However, the mayors of the capital cities of Tunisia and Italy entered into a symbolic peace treaty on 2/5/1985 in the spirit of friendship and cooperation. Learn more about that on Aramco World
Taylor was going for Carthaginian War but was unable to finish the word “War” so he lost his $798 bet. That left him $2.00.
Bonnie went with Ron. Ken said that was a nice shoutout “whoever he or she is.” Bonnie lost her $3,300 bet and finished with $1,700.
Amy got it right. She bet $10,000 and won the game with $33,800. Her 2-day total is $65,400.
Reversal: EMBEDDED NUMERIC HOMOPHONES ($1200) This adjective means resembling the proverbial “King of the Jungle” – Ken accepted Taylor’s answer of “lionine” with a long “i” (or “lio9” to conform to the category). The word is actually “leonine” with a long “e.” Taylor was docked $2,400.

Poor Taylor took it on the chin tonight, first with “cruel and unusual punishments” and then “lionine.”
Then the two tough DDs, although I did know both.
As William Weyser and Richard Corliss always say, Taylor, darn those daily doubles.
Not only that, the moment where Taylor had to have $2,400 taken away for him, because he said “Lionine”, instead of “Leonine”, which I’ve never heard of, took the wind out of Taylor’s sails, and he was unable to recover from that. Taylor, you can’t let that happen. You have to find a way to recover from that, and try to make a good game out of it.
I didn’t even know that happened till the reversal was announced because I said leonine at the same time Taylor said lionine. I just assumed he said leonine when Ken said he was right.
The final question was rather easy. . Yes, the Carthaginian Wars.
The daily doubles in the second round didn’t work in Taylor’s favor. New Brunswick is in New Jersey and not overseas. What was he thinking? I guess geography and poetry is not his best subject. I am happy Amy won again so I hope she continues her winnings. At least now we have another possible toc candidate in our champion.
New Brunswick is also a province in Canada.
