On the next pick, Dane landed on the last Daily Double in “The City Has Fallen” under the $1,000 clue. With $23,800, Dane was still rocking first place and had $13,400 more than Elena in second place. He bet $3,000 and guessed Napoleon. That was WRONG.

WHO IS JOHN MERCER LANGSTON?
John Mercer Langston (VA-Rep) served in the House of Representatives (51st Congress) when Benjamin Harrison was President. Langston’s biography on the History section of the House’s website describes him as “One of the most prominent African Americans in the United States before and during the Civil War, John Mercer Langston was as famous as his political nemesis, Frederick Douglass. One of the first African Americans to hold elective office in the United States…, Langston topped off his long political career by becoming the first black man to represent Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.”
His grandnephew, Langston Hughes, gained fame in his own right as the “Poet Laureate of Harlem” in the early 20th century. However, let’s not think that he adopted the name Langston to honor his esteemed ancestor. He was born James Mercer Langston Hughes. Jeopardy! recognized this fact in a 1990 clue: MIDDLE NAMES ($300) This poet’s first name was James; Langston was one of his middle names.
Kate bet it all and doubled her score to $7,600.
Elena bet $6,322. That brought her up to $20,322.
Dane bet $8,400 and won the game with $28,000. Dane Reighard is the new Jeopardy! champ.

if elena had doubled up there would’ve been a tie! i wonder why dane didnt bet a dollar more to seal his win. was there any sense in dane’s bet?
I am glad everyone got final right today since Dane had made this game a runaway today. I had no idea that Langston Hughes was the grandnephew of John M. Langston. So that would make the guy his great uncle or something.
