James Henry Atkinson invented a prototype mousetrap around 1897. A simple flat wooden base with wire fastenings and a spring trap, it became known as the “Little Nipper”. The “Nipper” slams shut in 38/1000ths of a second, which means you could set off a string of ten traps, lined up like dominos, in the time it takes you to blink once.
