WHAT IS “GUERNICA”?
One of Picasso’s most famous works and a well-known anti-war symbol, Guernica is a mural-sized painting portraying the horrors of the April 1937 destruction of that Basque town by Nazi bomber planes. The incident brought up in today’s clue is the kind I would expect to greatly vary in retellings, so I looked for one that sounded a little more credible than others. This is from the Guernica Remakings website: “During World War Two when the Germans occupied Paris (1940-44), Nazi officers would regularly visit Picasso in his studio. The story goes that a Gestapo officer picked up a postcard of Guernica and asked Picasso: “Did you do this?” he responded: “No, you did!” This story demonstrates the power of Guernica even in its hand held and mass-produced form.” It is also mentioned that “people could be arrested for having such a postcard of Guernica in their possession.”
Also, visit PabloPicasso.org for more information and 10 Facts on Guernica.
Aimee bet $4,000 and finished with $8,400.
Lindsey bet $7,000, bringing her up to $20,000.
Colin added $7,700 and won the game with $26,100. Colin Davy is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Are they now allowing personal messages such as “happy birthday “ on the final jeopardy response? I thought they had outlawed that as it would be part of response and therefore incorrect,
yeah, Marilyn, that’s what they said when they wanted to make James Holzhauer stop doing that, but I’ve yet to see them enforce it.
Thanks, VJ.
Great game to watch with good contestants. So glad to see the board cleared and a triple solve for fj. Congratulations Colin!
Glad to see a triple solve today though I definitely feel Colin can build up a streak like Kevin walsh did. I am surprised that no one knew AMC. Also VJ are you a fan of the daytime soaps such as guiding light, days of our lives or general hospital? Still we should see more triple solves like things.
I haven’t watched daytime soaps in a long time, Lou. I used to watch the one that showed up today and One Life to Live. My mother got me into them when I was a teen and I watched them off and on till I couldn’t take all the stringing out they do with the storylines. For example, on OLTL, it took them over a year to tell Bo Buchanan who his crazy mother was, although the audience knew it the whole time.
I think her name was Olympia, VJ?
Yes! that was it, Rhonda. What a crackpot she was!
At least, I have heard of today’s FJ! response, which was what Ben Cosman picked on 12/18/17, in Kate O’Connor’s 1st Game, and all I know about it is that it’s a Picasso work. OK, I’ll stop.
The Bob Barker clue in Daytime TV aired on the day where TPIR reran the Barker cameo on the 4/1/2015 episode, which will most certainly end up being his last TV appearance.
I didn’t know Bob Barker did karate.
